Dear Parents/Guardians,
We enjoyed a “normal” schedule this week, and it was nice to have time to work on the several different projects we had going on! I am getting sad typing this, as I realize this will be the last weekly email. I have truly enjoyed this group of students, as they have made this year so fun. Obviously I love all of my students from years past, but this groups will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing them with me, and allowing me to teach them each day! We combined Math and Reading this week in order to do our restaurant project. Students came up with a restaurant concept, designed and created a menu using context clues, and then designed their restaurant floor plan using area and perimeter! I was so impressed with the final results. They will be bringing them home in the next few days, so definitely take a look at their creativity. We also continued on with our Olympic unit by studying the country of Brazil, which is where this summer’s Olympics are taking place, and we looked at how these Olympics will be somewhat different than years past based on the location of them. Students also finished creating their Olympic shoes, which we will be testing out in a race next week. Students also created a memory book this week, drawing and writing about all of their 4th grade experiences and memories. Students will have an opportunity to sign each other’s memory books and yearbooks on the last day of school. We finished our force and motion unit this week in Science by designing, creating, and testing roller coasters. Some of our coasters were successful, and some not. We took this opportunity to learn from the failures, and discuss what could be done differently next time to make the coasters work. It was a difficult task, and I was impressed with the hard work and scientific thinking students gave to the project! We also celebrated summer birthdays this week, which made for some fun afternoons. The whole class celebrated the final Triple A yesterday afternoon by enjoying time at the park! We will be doing fun activities next week as well to continue learning as long as possible! The last weekly business note is coming home today showing next week’s happenings. There will be an all school awards assembly on Monday. We will also get to watch the staff vs. student basketball game Monday afternoon. The students will get to use their BRAVES tickets at the final store on Tuesday. Wednesday is the last day of school, and it is a half day. Lunch will be served that day at 10:33. We will also do yearbook signing that morning, and report cards will go home with students that day. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything! Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
