What a fun two day week we have had here at TES! I am sure the talking point today when the students get home will be the sliming of Mr. Poell! He made a promise to the students that if they met the fundraising goal, he would let the top sellers slime him! We have also had two days of Thanksgiving Mania! We have done many different reading, writing, and math activities related to Thanksgiving! We ended today by taking a virtual tour of the Mayflower and its voyage, and watching the “I Am Thankful” Imovie starring the students! I am very thankful for this group of students, as their love of learning makes each day so enjoyable! I am also very thankful for all of the support you give as parents in helping make sure students are learning at home, as well as at school. Thanks to everybody who has sent in canned goods this week. Those can continue to be sent in, as we are now in the second phase of the challenge. The students are now competing for a pizza party! Students went and purchased cans this week with their Braves tickets, which brought our total up! What a great display of citizenship! In Reading this week we talked about the elements of drama, and practice and performed Thanksgiving Reader’s Theater. The class was split into two groups, and each group was assigned a different play. They performed them for each other this afternoon. We will finish our poetry and drama unit next week! Please continue to make sure students are reading each night for their reading logs! We continued on with long division in Math this week, and took a test today. I am so proud of the students as this was a difficult concept in the beginning. Their hard work and determination has really paid off. We also used math to create a Thanksgiving dinner menu based off of grocery ads and the number of people in their family! We will start the unit of patterns and sequencing next week. Here is a great online game that students can play and get long division practice at the same time so it stays fresh in their minds: http://www.coolmath4kids.com/long-division/index.html The weekly business note is coming home today. The weekly spelling list is also coming home today. The pretest will be on Tuesday, and the final test on Friday. November reading logs are due on Tuesday, so please help students remember to turn those in, as they are for a reading grade. Library checkout is on Wednesday, so students need to bring books back to recheck or get new ones. They will probably be ready for new ones after the break! The students will get to participate in RIF next Friday, where they will get a free book and popcorn. PTC Family Reading Night is also next Friday here at TES. More information will be coming home regarding that next week.
Some upcoming dates to notice:
December 7th is when book orders are due if interested in ordering from those. They will be sent home at the beginning of next week. December 17th the students will get to walk through Body Venture and learn about the human body! December 18th is the end of the 2nd quarter. Winter vacation is December 21st-January 4th. Classes will resume on January 5th, which is also when 2nd quarter grade cards and behavior standards will go home. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
