Dear Parents/Guardians,
I want to start off by thanking everybody who sent in gifts this week. I was very surprised, and am very appreciative! We spent the week doing many different holiday related activities, and had a lot of fun! We ended the week by drinking hot chocolate, eating cookies, and watching the Polar Express in our pajamas! In Math, we practiced winter word problems, and did multiplication mystery pictures. After break, we will begin our fractions unit. Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can! We read different holiday picture books, including “How Santa Got His Job”, and “The Polar Express”. Students filled out a job application to be an elf, listing the skills they have that would make them a good elf. They also did different activities related to “The Polar Express”. Students also read about the history of hot chocolate, looked at different recipes, and wrote about their perfect cup of hot chocolate, and what would go in it. Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible, and recording it on the reading logs for those students who are interested in turning them back in for a prize in January! We finished our regions unit in Social Studies this week, by learning about the Southwest and West regions of the United States. We weaved bracelets for our experience in the Southwest, and learned about and built Alaskan Iditarod sleds for our West region experience. We will begin Science after winter vacation. There is NO spelling list coming home today, as there will be no spelling the week students return. The weekly newsletter is also coming home today, showing details about the week students return from break. Students will return to school on January 3rd. January reading logs are due that day for students who chose to fill them out for a prize. 2nd quarter report cards/behavior standards will go home on Wednesday, January 4th. Students will have library checkout on Friday, so please help students remember to bring their books to recheck or get new ones. Some upcoming dates to notice: December 19th-January 2nd is winter vacation. I will send book orders home when students return, and they will be due January 9th if interested in ordering from those. We will have RIF on January 10th. There is NO school on January 16th. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great holiday season, and Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
