What another eventful week we had here at TES! We celebrated Red Ribbon Week with our spirit days, and discussing tips to stay drug free and how to avoid peer pressure! The students got in the sprit each day, especially crazy hair day! Thursday was Pumpkinology, where students rotated to each 4th grade classroom throughout the day, and did a different activity with their pumpkins. We ended the week by participating in different Halloween activities, and having our classroom Halloween party! What a fun day it was! Thanks to everybody who helped with and attended the party. It is much appreciated! This week in Reading we began to learn how to describe the different settings in a text, and proving it with evidence from the text. Next week, we will focus on what impact the setting has on the characters and plot of the story. As they read at home, have them stop every now and then and describe the setting to you, using details! Please continue to make sure students are reading each night for their reading logs! We started a new chapter in Math this week. We are still focusing on multiplication, specifically 2 digit numbers multiplied by another 2 digit number. This week we have only focused on numbers with zeros, and estimating products. Next week they will learn a few different methods to help them solve these problems. Please continue practicing multiplication facts at home. The more automatic those basic facts are, the easier this math concept will be for students! www.multiplication.com is a fun website to use! We began learning about the Southwest region of the United States in Social Studies this week. Students have been assigned a state, and will begin researching next week. They will be making a travel brochure trying to convince others to travel there! We also learned about idioms this week. We did this so they can chose one or two sentences from their personal narrative, and add an idiom into it to make it more exciting! They are now pointing out idioms in their library books, and books from my library. They also pointed out some I have said without even knowing it! At home, you could give them an idiom, (ie. It’s raining cats and dogs.) and they could illustrate the literal meaning of it, and then tell you the actual meaning of it. Please see below for pictures of students showing their spirit for Red Ribbon Week, enjoying Pumpkinology, and celebrating Halloween at our class party! The weekly business note is coming home today. The spelling list is also coming home today, and the pretest will be on Tuesday and the final test on Friday. October reading logs are due on Monday, so please help students remember to turn those in, as they are for a reading grade! Library checkout is on Wednesday, so please help students remember to bring their books that day to recheck or get new ones. I will be sending book orders home on Monday, and if interested in ordering from those, please send it the order from and a check by Friday. There are some books in this order that would make great Christmas presents!
