What a fun week this has been! We ended the 2nd quarter on a high note! We finished up the units we have been working on, and then celebrated with many different winter activities. The students were also featured on this morning’s video announcements. It showed them shopping in the BRAVES store yesterday spending their hard earned behavior tickets! The students also experienced Body Venture yesterday. We started today off by wrapping the gifts we have been making for you, and then participated in the all school sing-a-long. It is always great to hear the whole school singing Christmas music. When we came back from the sing-a-long, the students had a gift from me on their desk. They opened those and then gave each other the letters they have been writing to each other. It was a nice time of sharing! After lunch we enjoyed a snack, hot cocoa, and watched the Polar express. In Reading this week we finished up our main idea unit by reading different pieces of text and identifying the main idea and details. Then we read the Polar Express, and did many different activities with that. I highly encourage students to continue their daily reading over the winter break, and writing it down on their reading logs! In Math this week we finished our patterns and sequences unit, and then did winter word problems and winter multiplication mystery pictures. The students are bringing home math problems associated with the Polar Express that they can do over break for fun to keep their math skills sharp! The students finished their Southeast region state research this week, and made posters with their researching findings! They turned out great, and will be very helpful in helping others learn about this region. The weekly business note is coming home today, showing the events for the week we return from break. The weekly spelling list is also coming home today for the week we return. The pretest will be on Tuesday, and the final test on Friday. There is no school on Monday, January 4th and classes will resume on January 5th. December reading logs are due the day the students come back! Library checkout is on Wednesday, so please help students remember to bring books back to recheck or get new ones. I’m sure students will be ready for new books by then. That is also the day 2nd quarter report cards and behavior standards will go home. Battle of the Books permission slips are due on Thursday, January 7th.
Some upcoming dates to notice:
Winter vacation is December 21st-January 4th. I will send book orders home on January 5th when students return, and if interested in ordering from those, please send in order form and payment by January 11th. There will be NO school on January 18th, in observance of MLK day. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything! Have a very Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
