We had a fun week of learning here at TES, and got to end the week by showing responsibility. Our class had the privilege of doing the recycling for the entire building. The students seemed to enjoy it! We also got to preview the book fair this afternoon, and students made their wish lists. Make sure to stop by and check it out next week during conferences! Also, don’t forget about the PTC carnival tomorrow afternoon here at TES! It will definitely be a fun time! We finished Greek mythology this week with a STEM challenge, where students worked in groups to construct the strongest column. Not only did they read Greek literature, they also learned about Greek architecture, while using math and science to construct a strong, weight-bearing column. We also started another story this week, focusing on problems and solutions. Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible. We finished our decimal unit this week, and started customary measurement. The focus on this chapter is how to convert units of measurement. We drew a picture to help us remember conversion units. Have them draw the Y picture for you at home, and explain it. Then, they can use that picture to play a conversion game on this website: https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/menus/measurement.htm Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can! We are talking about waves transmitting information between devices in Science, and have been seeing that in real life with computer engineers. We learned about waves transmitting information through codes on a computer. Students even had the opportunity to “code” using a website. There are many apps that can be used at home if students want to keep coding! We started color poems this week, and this will be the writing for our class book, which students will also be illustrating! Students are not bringing home a spelling list today, as next week is only a two day week. Students are bringing home the weekly newsletter. Next Tuesday is our Valentine’s Day party, from 1:15-1:45. Students may bring in their boxes and valentines to hand out to their classmates that day. Wednesday and Thursday are parent-teacher conferences, and I look forward to meeting with you all! There is no school next Friday, or the following Monday, February 20th. Students are also bringing home an orange flyer about Dollar Donut Day. The profits will go towards helping the outdoor classroom. If interested in purchasing a donut, please fill out the order form and send it in with $1. Orders are due by March 1st, and donuts will be delivered March 16th. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
