Dear Parents/Guardians,
The first part of the week was spent testing the students for their end of the year reading level. I am proud of their progress throughout the year. In Reading, we spent the week celebrating Earth Day. We read a book that showed problems the Earth could have if people continued treating the Earth the way they do. Then, students worked in groups to brainstorm solutions to those problems, and then wrote about what they could do to help the Earth. They also listened to the song “What a Wonderful World”, and drew pictures to the lyrics and how they could relate to Earth Day. Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible. We finished our geometry unit in Math this week, and took a test over those concepts. Next week, students will use geometry concepts, area and perimeter knowledge, and other math skills they have learned throughout the year to design their own restaurant. Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can. In Science, we started our force and motion unit. We took a scavenger hunt around the school to find real life examples of force, motion, and friction. Students also used toy cars to test the relationship between force and distance. All of this knowledge will come in handy at the end of the unit, where students build and test their own rollercoaster. In Writing, we finished our 5 paragraph rough drafts of Wax Museum, and will begin typing final drafts next week. Then, students will begin practicing their presentations. We hope you can join us on May 12th to see all of the hard work students have put into this project. Please let me know if you have any questions about the costume/prop portion of this project. Students are bringing home a spelling list, and the weekly newsletter. Tuesday is field day! Please help the students remember to wear yellow, bring a water bottle, wear sunscreen, and bring a lunch from home, unless they brought back the note about purchasing a school lunch. Please watch the weather for that day, and help students dress appropriately. The schedule for Field Day is on the back of the newsletter, so you know where we are throughout the day. We would be happy to have you join us anytime throughout the day if you can! Next Wednesday is the last library checkout for the school year. Students need to bring back both of their books to turn in, and they will be allowed to check out one book this time. Fine Arts Night is next Thursday evening here at TES. The spelling test will be next Friday. Some upcoming dates to notice: May 9th will be when students hear about band for next year, and get to try out instruments. May 10th is when all library books are due, as well as the final Battle of the Books Challenge. May 12th is our Wax Museum presentations from 10:00-11:20, and you are welcome to attend. May 12th is also our fact fluency Boot Camp reward party. That is all for this week! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
