Dear Parents/Guardians,
It has been a fun four day week, filled with science experiments and Easter activities! I hope the students enjoy their three day weekend. In Reading, we finished our nonfiction animal unit, along with working on comparing and contrasting with fairy tales. Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible. In Math, we continued on with geometry, focusing on angles-specifically how to measure and draw them using a protractor. At home, students could draw you an example of a right, acute, and obtuse angle at home. We will still be working on geometry in between Math State Assessments next week. Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can. In Science, we did weathering and erosion experiments, and then learned how to read topographic maps. Today, we used modeling clay to build a landform, and then measure its intervals, cut it apart, and make a topographic map of it. We will start learning about natural disasters next week. In Writing, we finished our research and note taking for our Wax Museum projects. Next week, we will start drafting our 5 paragraph essays, and then begin typing. We have also been working on cursive writing. Students need to make sure and bring their Wax Museum book to school every day! They are also encouraged to do outside research on their person! Students are bringing home a spelling list, and the weekly newsletter. We will be taking Math State Assessments next Tuesday and Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Please help make sure students get plenty of rest the night before, a healthy breakfast and lunch the day of, and encourage them to give their best effort! The spelling test will be next Friday, along with library checkout. Please help make sure students bring their books to recheck or get new ones. We are planning on showing the Growth and Development film next Friday. A note from the nurse will be going home on Monday explaining this, and giving you the option to exempt them if you prefer. The PTC Sock Hop is also next Friday here at TES! Some upcoming dates to notice: May 2nd is Field Day. May 9th will be when students hear about band for next year, ,and get to try out instruments. May 10th is when all library books are due, as well as the final Battle of the Books Challenge. May 12th is our Wax Museum presentations from 10:00-11:20, and you are welcome to attend. A formal invitation will be coming home soon! May 12th is also our fact fluency Boot Camp reward party. That is all for this week! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
