Dear Parents/Guardians,
I want to start off by saying thank you very much for all of the treats, office supplies, flowers, and notes sent in this week! I really appreciate everything! The highlight of our week was definitely Field Day! The students won Tug-A-War, and the Relay Race, and were very excited about this! In Reading, we have been reading a nonfiction book about sea turtles, and learning many new facts about them! Students drew and labeled a diagram of a sea turtle this week, as well as some writing activities about what they read. Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible. In Math, we started our Restaurant Project. Students designed a restaurant, and drew a floor plan of it, coming up with the area and perimeter of each part of their restaurant. They are also coming up with a restaurant concept and menu during Reading time. Next week, we will start a road trip vacation math project! Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can. In Science, we continued on with our force and motion unit. We studied potential and kinetic energy, along with Newton’s three Laws of Motion. It was also the first warm day we have had in a long time, so we made s’mores and tested our solar ovens. We spent our Writing time this week finishing up the typing and editing of Wax Museum essays. Next week, students will do the final draft of the portrait and timeline, as well as preparing for their presentations. We hope you can join us on May 12th to see all of the hard work students have put into this project. Please let me know if you have any questions about the costume/prop portion of this project. Students are bringing home a spelling list, and the weekly newsletter. Students will get to hear about band for next year, and test out instruments on Tuesday. All library books are due on Wednesday, so please help students remember to bring those to school. We will get to watch the final Battle of the Books Challenge on Wednesday morning. Friday will be a super busy day for us! We get to participate in a STEM lab, where students will get to do coding and 3-D printing. Then, we have our Wax Museum presentations from 10:00-11:20. The math Boot Camp Reward Party and treats will be that afternoon. The spelling test will also be on Friday. I will be sending home 4th quarter behavior standards next Friday as well, so you will be able to see if your child made Triple A. Some upcoming dates to notice: 4th quarter Triple A will be on May 15th. A note will go home with behavior standards about this. We will have a pajama day on May 16th to celebrate the students’ hard work on state assessments! We will also be attending the End of the Year Assembly on May 16th as well. May 17th is the last day of school, and it is a half day! That is all for this week! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
