Dear Parents/Guardians,
It was a fun week of learning here in 4th grade! In Reading, we started a new story about a hamster help a family become closer, and the students really enjoyed it! They worked on identifying the theme of the story, along with writing a summary of it to tell others about it. Because the story was about a family who watched a great deal of TV, we learned about advertisements, and how they have an impact on people. Students are now working on creating a paper or video advertisement for Family Fun, Food & Fitness Night for others in the school to see! Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible. In Math we finished our customary measurement unit, which focused on converting between units. Students reviewed for the test by measuring bugs to the nearest ¼, ½, and ¾ inch. They also played a conversion showdown game. Next week we will start learning about the metric measurement system. Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can! We continued our life science unit this week. We did a bug simulation to show how camouflage can save an organism’s life. Then, we started learning about parts of a plant, and different plant adaptations. Next week we will be “building” a plant. Students will be challenged to build a plant that can survive in the ecosystem I assign them. In Writing, we finished our rough drafts of our personal narratives, where students chose a life experience to write about. We also typed our color poems, and keep working on perfecting our illustrations to accurately depict the poem. Students are bringing home a spelling list, and their test will be next Friday. Students are also bringing home the weekly newsletter. There are a great deal of due dates to notice! Scholastic book orders are due Monday if interested in ordering from those. Class book orders, which will feature our color poems, are due on Wednesday. Please remember to send those back whether you are ordering or not! If ordering spring pictures, those orders are due on Thursday. Please help students to bring their library books next Friday, to recheck or get new ones. Friday is also the end of the 3rd quarter, and behavior standards will be coming home that day! Students are bringing home information about Math Madness, which is a building wide math competition. Please look over with your child, and encourage them to participate. It would be a fun family activity at home as well! Some upcoming dates to notice: March 16th is donut delivery day. That evening is also Family Fun, Food, & Fitness night here at TES. There is NO school March 17th. March 20-24 is Spring Break! March 31st is PTC Sonic Night. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
