Dear Parents/Guardians,
I want to start off by letting you know that I, along with a few other staff members, were part of interviewing new teachers today, so I was not in the classroom. However, the substitute did a great job of following protocol and keeping your children safe. I was in the building, so I did follow up and made sure everything was okay after the lockdown. I also want to thank you for your time last week. It was nice to meet with you at parent-teacher conferences. We spent this week in Reading learning about different text structures that authors use when writing, and how identifying those structures helps us comprehend the story better. We read many different passages, and sorted them by text structure throughout the week. Please make sure and have students read at home as much as possible! In Math, we are learning the different units of the customary measurement system, and how to convert between those different units. This week we focused on capacity and weight. This concept can be more challenging, so here is a website students can use at home to help with these concepts: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/measurement/BestMeasure2.htm We will continue to work with these units throughout next week. Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home whenever possible. We started plant and animal adaptations this week in Science, learning about biodiversity, adaptations, and camouflage. We will be doing many different experiments/simulations next week to learn more about these topics. We are finishing our color poems for our class book, and working on the illustrations. Please remember to send back the order form and payment if interested in ordering, and sending it back with the NO box checked if you are not interested in ordering. We also started brainstorming topics for our personal narratives, which will be our next writing project. Please see below for pictures of this week's activities, along with many others I had stored in my phone! Students brought home Jump Rope for Heart information and donation forms yesterday, if interested in participating in that. Students are bringing home new spelling lists today, and their test will be on Friday. Students are also bringing home the weekly newsletter. Dollar donut orders are due next Wednesday, if students are interested in ordering one. Proceeds go towards bettering the outdoor classroom. Donuts will be delivered March 16th. We will have library checkout on Friday, so help students remember to bring their books back to recheck or get new ones. Some upcoming dates to notice: Class book orders are due March 8th. Spring picture orders are due March 9th. March 10th is the end of the 3rd quarter. Family Fun, Food, & Fitness night is March 16th here at TES. There is NO school March 17th. As always please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
