Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am so proud of the students this week, and their hard work and effort put into the Reading state assessments! I gave them an encouraging note and treat each day, and we had a second grade class make us some encouraging notes as well. The students enjoyed those! That took up most of our Reading time this week, but we did spend some time reading a fairy tale, and a nonfiction animal story that next week we will be comparing and contrasting to two different stories. Please continue reading at home each night as much as possible. A flyer also came home this week about some summer reading opportunities the students could take part in if interested! In Math, we finished our area and perimeter unit, and started our final math unit: geometry. We studied lines, points, and rays, as well as parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines. We played Geometry “Simon Says” for students to learn these concepts. Encourage students at home to find examples of the types of lines inside or outside of the house, or wherever you may be! They found many real life examples today in the classroom! Please make sure and practice multiplication and division facts at home when you can. In Science, we focused on weathering, erosion, and deposition. Students sang and danced to learn these concepts, along with different experiments to demonstrate weathering. In Writing, we continued with our Wax Museum project. Students worked on timeline events, and fun facts this week. We will finish up our note taking in the next week or so, and then begin drafting and typing our reports. Students need to make sure and bring their Wax Museum book to school every day! They are also encouraged to do outside research on their person! Students are bringing home a spelling list, and their test will be next Thursday, since there is NO SCHOOL for students next Friday. Students are also bringing home the weekly newsletter. I sent home Scholastic book orders this week, and will not be entering those until Monday. So, if still interested in ordering please send in order form and payment by Monday. This is the last book order for the school year, and the perfect time to get some good books for summer! 4th quarter midterm behavior standards will be coming home on Wednesday. Some upcoming dates to notice: Math State Assessments are April 18th and 20th. The PTC Sock Hop is on April 21st. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schrant
